OUR HISTORY

In 1890, Giuseppe Pero – known as “Rocchetta” after his birthplace, Rocchetta Tanaro – opened a retail and wholesale grocery shop near the railway station in Nizza Monferrato.

The business flourished and was continued in the 1920s to his son, Giuseppe (affectionately known as “Pinin” in the Piedmontese dialect).

Together with his wife, Francesca Spagarino, he navigated the difficult years of the 1929 recession and the Second World War.

Once the war ended, the business restarted with high hopes and… their famous Fiat Balilla!

Tragically, Pinin passed away at the age of 56 in a car accident.

However, the commercial activity continued through the initiative of his sons, Francesco and Lorenzo.

In January 1968, Figli di Pinin Pero & C. S.p.A. was officially established

A larger facility was acquired to manage the warehouses and expanding commercial operations.

Following a rapid market evolution, the company shifted from general food wholesaling to the packaging of white and cane sugar.

Between the mid-1970s and early 1980s, the fourth generation joined the activity: Giuseppe and Paolo and Maria Luisa and Andrea.

In 1976 the very first sugar sachet was packed.

The growing market demands called for more sugar varieties and innovative packaging. To support this growth, a larger, more modern facility was required.

Figli di Pinin Pero & C. moved to the new plant in Strada Canelli, the current headquarter.

The company became Italy’s primary importer of raw cane sugar directly from its countries of origin.

Over the years, the main plant has undergone several expansions.

More recently, a printing center and two new facilities in Calamandrana (Sugar Terminal) and Basaluzzo (packaging center) were added, bringing the total area to 30,000 sqm.

The fifth generation of the Pero family has now entered the company: Maria Beatrice, Cristina, and Francesca.

Today, Figli di Pinin Pero operates in the HO.RE.CA., Bakery, Consumer, and Vending sectors, offering a wide range of sugars and derivatives also under private label.
